Corporate Philosophy
Applied Satellite Technology (AST) Australia's approach is to provide a complete satellite communications package that is suited to individual client needs based on a diversified range of products.
We offer reliability and support with our next day, right first time, service. We understand the importance of preparation, checking and technical support thereafter, when operating in remote locations, which by definition, is where the majority of our equipment is used.
The purpose and goal of AST Australia is to provide a professional service in the field of mobile satellite services. From deciding upon the most appropriate system at commencement, to airtime, service and support, we consider key aspects such as overall lifetime cost and ease of use when satisfying our clients. We are an independent provider that can tailor a package precisely.
AST Australia's client base is extensive and includes government, oil and gas companies, shipping companies, offshore contractors, international organisations, private individuals, mining companies, farmers, military and indeed, all manner of users that need communications outside of conventional terrestrial or cellular coverage.
Through our initiative, innovation and excellent customer service, we maintain our leadership within this dynamic and expanding industry.
Services
AST is a specialist and flexible provider of satellite hardware, airtime, service and support. We are able to provide satellite hardware, which 'works' on any of the satellite airtime services available in the world. We contract directly with each satellite system operator to provide airtime to end-users directly, indirectly, through distributors and via special project based contracts.
The AST group is an airtime provider for all satellite systems:-
- Inmarsat
- Iridium
- Optus
- ACeS
- Thuraya
- Optus MobileSat
In respect to hardware we are a Certified Partner of Thrane & Thrane, and Australian distributor for SeaTel and TracStar Antenna’s. We also distribute quality Australia products including those manufactured by Beam Communications and Step Electronics.
Where we have found systems to be lacking, we have developed our own. We currently manufacture smart card operated payphones for use on ships along with the design, manufacture and supply of a robust antenna (Tuff-tenna) to users, including the military.
We have an established Australia wide network of dealers. This enhances our ability to provide for all customers and maintains that hardware costs are competitive. We provide our dealers and all end users with technical back up and support for Inmarsat and Iridium systems, as well as Marine Electronic products. We are committed to the continual expansion of our distribution and dealer network.
In addition to sales many of our products and services are available for rental hire, including hand held satellite phones, mobile broadband satellite terminals and satellite tracking and monitoring devices.
Because AST Australia’s roots are in marine electronics, we import marine products such as Jacob Hatteland Industrial displays, seabed analysis systems and computer based chart and navigation systems.
Company History
AST Australia is part of the privately owned AST Group of companies who have been established for over ten years and are represented in the UK, Singapore, Japan and Australia.
Gregory Darling in the UK formed AST in 1992 as a result of being a dissatisfied user of the Inmarsat satellite communications in various 'offshore' applications. The company grew and prospered in depth and capability by providing a superior level of service in a very competitive environment.
A friendly merger between AST UK, HB Pacific Pty Ltd and SatTel Australia led to the formation of the AST Australia.
Henrik Jacobsen established HB Pacific Pty Ltd as a marine electronics service company in 1992. Due to the increase demand for satellite communications, he formed a separate entity named SatTel Australia. Both entities had a long association with AST UK, thus the decision to merge came easily with no disruption to business.
AST Australia is now an independent organisation under the leadership of Henrik Jacobsen and his dedicated team of expanding employees. This independence allows for decisions to be made quickly with the entire management team having a 'hands on' approach.
